Wee indeed! Halloween did not disappoint this year. First, I think I particularly like Halloween being on a Saturday; can someone make that change so it’s effective every year?

Trick or treating was just so much fun. Danny particularly had a blast, and I can say that because I spent much of the time just walking behind him. We got started in the mall shortly before 5pm, and from that moment on, Danny wanted down and free. He refuses hand holding at all opportunities, so in the end, off he went. He couldn’t care less for the candy; he was being allowed to walk around the mall all he wanted, whatever direction he wanted. (Mostly.) He went for an hour and a half with barely a break. Any time I picked him up, he squirmed back down! There was no effort to trick or treat, or follow the group, or stay close, and in a way it highlighted how different he is for his age, but who cares? He had so much fun, and I loved watching it.

Now Eric, on the other hand, was all about the candy. Last year he sort of followed along and kind of understood; this year, he had the concept down pat. The further along we went in the mall, the better he was about saying Trick or Treat, but there was no hesitation taking candy and thanking them and moving on to the next. For the first time, we went out and did a bit of the neighborhood too, and that was the just awesome. The decorations were cool, and though Eric started out a little shy and uncertain, by the time we finished circling he was running up sidewalks ahead of me and knocking on doors. He was getting a little chilly by the end or we would have gone further, though the candy stash at home says we stopped at the right time.

Now just to navigate the post-Halloween candy dishing. “I’m hungry, Mommy!” “What do you want to eat, Eric?” “Candy!” “You can have candy after supper.” “No, candy! I don’t want supper!”

…yeah. If my child looks like he’s starving by the end of the week, that’s why. I promise we’re trying to feed him.

I totally hear the “No I want candy” bit lol. It was very difficult to keep them out of the candy. I’m thankful that they wasted most of it by not eating it all. We got very little chocolate otherwise it would have not been wasted.
