Yep, it’s Christmas! Christmas time is always strange for me. As far as my brain is concerned, it kicks in right after Halloween, and I spend a month trying to conform to the US standard of not doing (much) Christmas until after Thanksgiving – I want to be putting lights up, trees up, music on, and getting into full swing. I listen to my Christmas music in the car when no one else has to hear it and spend far too much time planning Christmas card photos that I can’t take because the decorations aren’t up yet.
When Thanksgiving hits, I break loose. Being out of town for Thanksgiving this year, while wonderfully fun and lovely to see everyone, drove me a little batty because I got home and it was after Thanksgiving and my Christmas tree and lights were not up ohmygodnoI’msolate! My wonderful husband had tided me over, though, with a trip to Garden Ridge to buy a snowman and Santa and a couple smaller decorations we’d put in our yard.
I love Christmas.

So does Eric. Eric’s been talking about Christmas – things he remembers from last year no less, with no prompting! I was seriously impressed. He and I are taking this holiday by storm. We started to put up the tree last night – no decorations or anything yet, but the tree is up and lit, and he is already the tree police. If it’s off, he informs me immediately that he “can’t see the Christmas lights” and it needs to turn on. Driving to school this morning he spotting Christmas lights and said, “Mommy, you can put Christmas lights on our house!”
Yes, son. Yes, I can.
(Or rather, his father can.)

I can’t wait to see Danny’s reaction this year. I don’t expect much, but he’ll definitely be taking more not than he did last year, and it’s exciting. I also can’t wait for the first snow, to see the boys’ reaction to that.
There’s a lot of things I can hardly wait for. I love this season!
(I also love Christmas music, so I’ll be sharing a number of them through December… This one is the Christmas Can-Can by Straight No Chaser)
