Last night: 100% oxygen, low platelets, & wacky blood sugar

This AM: down to 30% oxygen, blood sugar levels good & 2 platelet transfusions – not massive, will monitor & do more if needed.

Enlarged Spleen, Liver and Red Spots point toward some kind of infection when he was still in. That could have been why he had pooped in his water or a result of it – either way, probably why he came early.

Ultrasound on the heart completed early this morning – no results, cardiologist hadn’t had time to look at it at 7am, 9am, 11am and still not at 4pm.

Still to come:

-Ultrasound of the brain and abdominals – judging from the lack of results from the heart, we won’t hear about these till late tomorrow.

-Blood panel results on what infection is and if it bacterial or viral (pretty sure it is viral, atm). A lot of these, you just take care of the baby and it goes away. Panels could take a few days.

- Eye test with optometrist

Daniel is currently on IV fluids, but they will probably try him on milk tomorrow. He is doing very well, is comfortable, breathing well, but probably won’t go home when Kelly goes home.

Kelly wrote all that down for me to post for her… to add to it, the NICU nurse wasn’t as “optimistic” when she talked to me, she doesn’t link the enlarged liver and spleen to the viral infection, but to being early. She didn’t fill me in what exactly that meant for the future, but left it for my imagination.
